Picture of the future Defacto

For the book ‘A smart city, this is how you do it – Connected, flexible and meaningful: make the real future city’ of the Future City Foundation, nine design agencies were asked about their future vision of the smart city.

Region of the Future “The Spanish Polder”
The housing assignment in the Netherlands is huge. In “Region of the Future”, six design teams in four regions investigate the spatial consequences of current social challenges, such as urbanization, climate adaptation and the circular economy. In the proposal from the Defacto design team (Defacto, KuiperCompagnons, Plein06, Urbanos, Studio Tenesha Caton), will become the motor for circular construction in the Rotterdam-The Hague region. The port clusters that become available in the area, materials used per ship are collected, stored and again (inter) nationally distributed. The design team thus connects to the strong manufacturing industry in the Spanish Polder: products from the region that can be reused are made to measure. Value is added to other residual products, such as designer lamps made from recycled materials and furniture made from scrap wood.

This is a pre-publication of the book “A smart city, this is how you do it – Connected, flexible and meaningful: make the real future city”. With theory in the form of essays. And few practical examples of how our regions, cities and villages have already changed. Want to read more? Go to this page to order the book for free.
