For the book ‘A smart city, this is how you do it – Connected, flexible and meaningful: make the real future city’ of the Future City Foundation, nine design agencies were asked about their future vision of the smart city.

The Utrecht city region has an attractive residential and business climate. As of this, strong growth of residents and companies is expected in the coming 30 years. Administrative and designing is mainly focused on urban densification, heritage and keeping up with the growth of mobility. The shared landscape of the city of Utrecht and the nine municipalities around it (the “U10”) does not yet have a connecting story, while it is appreciated almost unnoticed. For the Utrecht city region, the independent consultant for spatial quality of the province of Utrecht has taken the initiative for the development of a “Ring Park”, a green belt around the city where the current landscape qualities are magnified.
